Q. I've heard that P.U.R.E. is based on a G.P.L. game engine. Is this true?
A. Absolutely, and we're very proud to have been a part of the Spring Project for the last four years.
Q. Does this mean that P.U.R.E.'s source code is freely available?
A. Yes! You can click here to get the latest official source, or join us on the Forums to follow the continuing development of the game.
Q. But wait... what am I paying for, then?
A. You're paying for the right to use our content. But you can even use our source code and the Spring Engine to make commercial games of your own!
No catch, no hidden traps in the EULA.
Just get the source code and start making RTS games of your own.
We're here to support you through our community, whether you just want to make a mod or full-blown game.
Q. Does this mean I can distribute P.U.R.E. with Linux distros, etc.?
A. No, you can't, unless you're willing to make all of the content that would require. Distributing our content, which is not G.P.L., is forbidden.
We have no objections to people eventually making an Open Source clone of the game, however. That's what the G.P.L. is all about.
Q. What about this World Builder thing?
A. World Builder is a free module (as in, free of cost) that is G.P.L. (i.e., you don't need our permission to use it).
We use it in P.U.R.E. to do level design with, and to include new content for everybody to use.
Our goal is to eventually have enough content in it to allow non-artists to develop their own video games, whether for free... or even commercially.
Q. Do you take donations for World Builder? Can I get involved in developing it?
A. Absolutely yes! We will be happy to help you help others and yourselves.
Adding to World Builder helps everybody who uses its contents. But you certainly do not have to, if you use it.
Q. I have other questions about what I can do with this. Where can I get answers?
A. Join us on our Forums, we'll be happy to talk to you!
